UPI Fraud
✓ Last verified 14 Sep 2026
The short version
UPI fraud almost always exploits user trust or confusion, not a flaw in UPI itself - fake collect requests, QR code tricks, and screen-sharing scams are the common patterns, not a hacked UPI system.
See our full UPI safety article for the detailed patterns - in short, fraudulent "collect requests" disguised as incoming payments, fake QR codes claimed to be for receiving money, and screen-sharing app tricks are the dominant fraud patterns, all exploiting user action (entering a PIN at the wrong moment) rather than any technical weakness in UPI's own security design. The one rule that prevents almost all of it: a PIN is only ever entered to send money, never to receive it.
