Cash Advance Fee

✓ Last verified 14 Sep 2026
The short version A cash advance fee is charged upfront when you withdraw cash using a credit card, on top of interest that starts accruing immediately with no grace period - together making credit card cash withdrawal one of the costliest ways to access money.

Unlike a regular purchase, a credit card cash withdrawal triggers both an upfront fee (commonly a percentage of the amount withdrawn) and immediate interest accrual from the withdrawal date - there's no interest-free grace period at all for cash withdrawals, unlike purchases paid in full by the due date. See our article on credit card traps for how this compares to other common, costly card mistakes.
